Ever increasing traffic jams are also becoming regular.
This is annoying for local shops, whose revenues are being affected.
People don't want to make the trip and sit in traffic all day.
So, the shops advocate for change. What's their
solution?
Fewer cars on the roads?
Have people move faster through the city to help ease congestion?
No one could agree.
Now, this is where it gets odd.
You see, in 1913, it took 40 minutes to go from 57th Street to 34th Street.
A distance of just 2km.
Today, that same trip can take just 8
minutes during rush hour.
How is this possible with vastly more cars on the road than ever imaginable in 1913?
The answer is thanks to Dr. John A. Harriss, "a millionaire physician fascinated by street conditions" who, according to
a NY Times article I read today, gifted the first set of traffic lights (of his own design, no less) to the city around the 1920's.
Dr. Harriss didn't think speeding up was the way to ease congestion.
Nor did he think slowing down would work.
He thought stopping was the key to going faster.
Yes. Stopping.
So why am I sharing this
with you?
Because I think your brain is just like the New York traffic and shops in the 1920's.
And sometimes... just sometimes...
... you need to 'stop' before you can 'go.'
Trying to do too much can leave you 'backed up'...
... grid-locked in a traffic jam of your own thoughts and to-do's.
I think it pays to stop every now
and then.
You need to stop to refocus.
To stop and have the things you've let accumulate on the other 'street' get a 'green light' and move ahead.
And, as Dr. Harriss discovered, you too may find that bit of clarity you need to move ahead faster than you could've before...
... if you simply 'stop' to consider what really needs to be
done.

Now, it's here I'd also like to let you know about a free group I'm creating on Facebook.
It's called "Be Different In Business - James Steadman's STEP Positioning System"
... and I'd like to think it's a place where you can 'stop' and get focus if you're feeling overwhelmed with your business.
Over the next few weeks, I'll be adding:
- some of my 'client only' marketing information, such as the "5SP" framework (don't want to miss this one)
- worksheets to help you find more of your ideal
customers
- video training on a range of marketing and sales topics
- past webinars on direct response marketing
- reports to help you understand the real value you bring to your customers
- and templates for things like homepages, landing pages, and more
Plus, you'll also get access to me.
So, if you have questions about anything in an email I send out, or in a blog you read, or
from something another coach of yours has said...
... and simply need a bit more information, just ask in the group and I'll be able to answer.
You won't need to wonder if something would work for you or your business when it comes to marketing, automation, or sales.
Now you can just ask and quickly get an answer.
You can join for free right here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/STEPsystem/I hope to see you inside... I won't be advertising it anywhere until later in the year, but for those who join now, you'll get access to everything early.
